EKA Mobility has commenced the deployment of 100 electric buses for the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) in Odisha, as part of the state’s ongoing efforts to strengthen sustainable public transport and reduce emissions. The initiative was announced and flagged off virtually by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, underscoring the government’s commitment to green mobility solutions.

The deployment of the EKA 9M electric buses has been carried out in collaboration with Travel Time Mobility Pvt. Ltd., which will oversee the operational aspects of the project for CRUT. This partnership is aimed at expanding the transport network in the state’s capital region by shifting from conventional diesel buses to zero-emission electric vehicles.

Under the project, all 100 buses will operate across different routes in the capital region to enhance CRUT’s transport capacity and provide commuters with cleaner, more efficient travel options. Officials have said the rollout is a key step in Odisha’s larger strategy to modernise its urban transport infrastructure and meet long-term sustainability goals.

The EKA 9M electric bus is designed to seat approximately 35 passengers and includes features like wheelchair accessibility to support inclusive mobility. Each unit is equipped with a 213 kW motor and a 200 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery system, reflecting current industry standards in electric public transport technology.

Commenting on the occasion, Rohit Srivastava, Business Head and Chief Growth Officer at EKA Mobility, said the deployment demonstrates the company’s dedication to accelerating India’s transition to sustainable public transport and enhancing the rider experience through advanced electric vehicle solutions.

Officials from Travel Time Mobility also highlighted that the project supports broader efforts to build clean and efficient transport infrastructure in Odisha. The 100-bus deployment adds momentum to the state’s environmental objectives, which include expanding e-bus networks and improving connectivity under initiatives such as the Ama Bus and CRUT programmes.
