Exide Industries has invested nearly ₹200 crore in its wholly owned subsidiary, Exide Energy Solutions, through a rights-based equity subscription. The investment was completed on August 18, 2026, and takes Exide Industries’ cumulative investment in EESL to ₹5,102.23 crore. The latest funding is aimed at supporting EESL’s lithium-ion battery manufacturing operations and related funding requirements.
The company invested ₹199,99,99,995 by subscribing to 5,71,42,857 equity shares of EESL. The shares carry a face value of ₹10 each and were issued at a premium of ₹25 per share. The transaction was completed on a rights basis, while Exide Industries’ shareholding in EESL remained unchanged at 100%.
Funding for Lithium-Ion Cell Manufacturing
The fresh capital forms part of Exide Industries’ broader investment plan for EESL. In January 2026, the company’s board approved an additional investment of up to ₹1,400 crore in EESL, which can be infused in one or more tranches. The funding is intended to support the development of a greenfield multi-gigawatt lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility in India.
EESL is developing its greenfield lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The subsidiary is focused on manufacturing lithium-ion battery cells, modules and packs for applications including electric vehicles and stationary energy storage. The project is therefore an important part of Exide Industries’ expansion into advanced battery technologies.
Exide Strengthens Advanced Battery Focus
With the latest ₹200 crore infusion, Exide Industries’ cumulative investment in EESL has crossed the ₹5,100 crore mark. The continued capital allocation reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to build capabilities in lithium-ion battery manufacturing alongside its established battery business. EESL’s Bengaluru project is expected to form a key part of this advanced battery manufacturing strategy.
The latest investment also keeps Exide Industries’ ownership of EESL unchanged at 100%, while providing additional capital for the subsidiary’s ongoing requirements. As India’s electric mobility and energy-storage markets continue to develop, Exide’s investment in domestic lithium-ion cell manufacturing positions EESL to participate in the growing demand for advanced battery technologies.
