GEON, the future technologies division of Kabra Extrusiontechnik Ltd, has commissioned a 10 MW/20 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Phalodi, Rajasthan. The project is aimed at expanding energy storage infrastructure and supporting the efficient integration of renewable energy into the power grid.
The commissioned BESS is designed to strengthen grid flexibility and enable more effective management of electricity generated from renewable energy sources. With a 10 MW power capacity and 20 MWh storage capacity, the system is intended to support efficient energy management, improve grid stability and facilitate renewable energy integration.
GEON said the project was designed, executed, tested and commissioned in accordance with applicable technical specifications, performance requirements and project obligations. The project includes the BESS container, Power Conversion System (PCS), Energy Management System (EMS), Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), pre-commissioning, commissioning and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
The Phalodi BESS project is being implemented under the requirements of Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (RVPNL). It also aligns with Rajasthan’s evolving renewable energy and green energy access framework, including the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission’s Green Energy Open Access Registration and Terms and Conditions Regulations, 2025.
GEON Chairman and Managing Director Anand Kabra said the successful commissioning of the 10 MW/20 MWh BESS project marks an important milestone in the company’s efforts to support a more resilient and renewable-ready power ecosystem. He highlighted the role of energy storage in balancing renewable generation with demand, improving grid stability and increasing the utilisation of clean energy.
The commissioning of the Phalodi project further highlights the growing importance of BESS infrastructure in India’s renewable energy transition. As solar and wind generation expand, battery energy storage systems can support the management of intermittency, peak demand and grid flexibility, strengthening the role of energy storage in India’s evolving power ecosystem.
