The Government of Goa has introduced a new State Subsidy Scheme for the installation of rooftop solar systems, aimed at accelerating renewable energy adoption across the state. The initiative seeks to reduce dependence on conventional electricity sources and encourage consumers to generate clean energy through rooftop solar installations.
The scheme will be implemented through the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) and has been effective from April 1, 2026. It will remain valid until March 31, 2028, subject to the provisions of the scheme. The programme is intended to provide additional financial support for eligible consumers installing rooftop solar systems during the validity period.
Consumers with a Permanent Consumer Account (CA) Number issued by the Department of Electricity are eligible to apply under the scheme. Eligible categories include residential consumers, Group Housing Societies (GHS), Resident Welfare Associations (RWA), educational institutions, commercial establishments, industrial establishments, NGOs and other eligible establishments.
Under the scheme, the Goa Government will provide financial assistance to eligible consumers based on the benchmark cost prescribed by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). The assistance will be applicable in accordance with the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and amendments issued by the ministry from time to time.
A key feature of the programme is that the State subsidy provided through GEDA will be available in addition to the Central Financial Assistance (CFA) offered by the Government of India under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This additional support is intended to provide eligible consumers with greater financial incentive to install rooftop solar systems.
Through the new initiative, Goa is strengthening its efforts to expand rooftop solar adoption and promote cleaner electricity generation across different consumer categories. Eligible consumers can take advantage of the State subsidy during the scheme’s validity period, with GEDA serving as the implementing agency for the programme.
