India and Russia have agreed to launch a major strategic collaboration aimed at boosting electric vehicle (EV) technology, clean mobility and sustainable industrial innovation. The agreement signed during recent high-level bilateral talks seeks to accelerate the development of next-generation mobility systems, advanced automotive components and green industrial technologies.

Under this new deal, the two nations will collaborate across the full spectrum of EV value-chain — from electric two-wheelers and passenger cars to battery technologies, charging infrastructure, smart mobility and even wireless mobility systems. They will also work together on advanced auto components, power electronics and intelligent transport solutions. India’s growing EV manufacturing strength, combined with Russia’s engineering and materials-science expertise, is expected to drive innovation, localisation and exports.

This partnership aligns neatly with India’s “Make in India” vision and the global push for clean mobility. The cooperation aims to reduce fossil-fuel dependence, strengthen the domestic manufacturing supply chain, and create new opportunities for joint ventures and investments. For Russia, the deal opens doors to fast-emerging EV markets in Asia, Africa and other emerging economies potentially using India as a manufacturing and export hub.

As part of a broader bilateral roadmap, both countries have reaffirmed their ambition to raise bilateral trade to US $100 billion by 2030. This EV and sustainable-technology partnership is expected to play a central role in meeting that target — via joint manufacturing, technology licensing, and cross-border green-tech investments.

More than just a commercial agreement, the collaboration signals a strategic shift towards sustainable industrial growth. By focusing on EVs, renewable technology, smart mobility and advanced manufacturing, India and Russia aim to contribute to global climate goals while building competitive industrial ecosystems. The deal is also expected to create jobs, boost skill development and upgrade technology across automotive and clean-energy supply chains.

Looking ahead, both governments plan to facilitate: joint EV manufacturing and R&D projects; co-development of next-gen auto components; collaboration on battery technology and charging infrastructure; smart mobility and wireless transport solutions; and export-oriented production for global markets. The India–Russia EV and sustainability partnership is envisioned as a long-term strategic framework for clean mobility innovation and industrial transformation.
