Infineon Technologies and Swoboda, a pioneer and producer of high-precision parts and systems for the automotive sector, are working together to create and commercialize cutting-edge current sensor modules specifically for use in automobiles.

To fulfill the growing demands for sensing solutions in hybrid and electric vehicles, this alliance takes advantage of Infineon’s state-of-the-art current sensor integrated circuits and Swoboda’s specialist knowledge in sensor module development and manufacture. Together, they hope to develop high-performance current measurement solutions that would expedite the release of goods for popular uses like battery management systems and traction inverters, among other essential automotive technologies.

The Swoboda CSM510HP2, the first product of this partnership, is a fully encased current sensor module that provides a substantially reduced footprint without compromising performance. It maintains a total inaccuracy of less than 2 percent by using the coreless Infineon TLE4973 current sensor IC for high-accuracy sensing. The most compact traction inverter solutions available today are made possible by this module’s seamless integration with Infineon’s HybridPACK Drive G2, an automotive power module for electric vehicle traction inverters. This eliminates the need for separate external current sensors.

The Head of Business Development at Swoboda, Klaus Lebherz, stated that the new generation of sensors sets a new benchmark for streamlined system integration. He pointed out that the combination of Swoboda’s experience with injection molding and Infineon’s most recent sensor technology.

According to Andrea Monterastelli, Head of Infineon Technologies’ Automotive Magnetic Sensors Product Group, the market currently requires high-performance, small, and simple-to-integrate sensing solutions. He went on to explain that the superior current sensor ICs from Infineon and Swoboda’s specialist skills enable the ideal match of these sensors with Infineon’s HybridPACK Drive G2, resulting in the most efficient solutions for hybrid and electric vehicles.

With an eye on accommodating a variety of power devices, Infineon and Swoboda are persistently broadening their present sensing solutions portfolio. Future goals include, among other things, high voltage battery management systems and inverter DC linkages.
