Jio-bp, the operating brand of Reliance BP Mobility, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with electric vehicle leasing platform DRIVN to explore opportunities for strengthening charging infrastructure for commercial electric vehicles in India. The collaboration will focus on the charging requirements of commercial fleets, including electric buses and trucks.
The partnership brings together DRIVN’s commercial EV leasing capabilities and Jio-bp’s EV charging network. Under the MoU, the two companies will explore ways to support fleet operators by connecting vehicle leasing requirements with charging infrastructure and improving access to charging facilities for commercial electric vehicles.
As part of the collaboration, Jio-bp and DRIVN will explore the integration of Jio-bp’s charging network with DRIVN’s digital leasing platform. The proposed integration could help commercial fleet drivers discover suitable charging locations while operating their vehicles on different routes.
The companies will also explore preferential charging tariffs and turnkey EV charging projects across identified cities and highways. The proposed solutions are intended to consider factors such as commercial EV routes, battery capacities and vehicle operating patterns, which are important for electric buses and trucks.
According to the companies, charging infrastructure needs to align with the operational requirements of commercial EV fleets. DRIVN Co-Founder and Chief Business Officer Alpna Jain highlighted the importance of charger locations and routes for electric buses and trucks, while Jio-bp Chairman Sarthak Behuria emphasised the role of commercial fleets in India’s transition towards electric mobility.
The MoU marks a collaboration between a commercial EV leasing platform and an EV charging network to explore solutions for India’s growing electric commercial vehicle segment. By examining charging-network integration, preferential tariffs and turnkey charging projects, Jio-bp and DRIVN aim to support the development of charging infrastructure suited to commercial fleet operations.
