Kinetic Watts & Volts, the electric-vehicle subsidiary of Kinetic Engineering, has received approval from the Government of Maharashtra to benefit from incentives worth approximately ₹42 crore under the state’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy. The incentive package will be realised in phases over the next 10 years and is aimed at strengthening local EV manufacturing efforts within the state.
The Maharashtra EV Policy is designed to promote domestic manufacturing, support capital investment, and build a more resilient supply chain for electric vehicles. It offers capital-linked incentives, tax and fee exemptions, and provisions for component localisation to make the state a key EV manufacturing hub in India.
KWV qualified for the incentive scheme primarily through its Kinetic DX electric scooter, a modern iteration of the iconic scooter reborn for the EV era. The Kinetic DX is manufactured at the company’s facility in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra, with nearly 99 % of its components sourced locally—a major factor in meeting the policy’s localisation criteria.
According to company leadership, the incentive is tied to KWV’s planned investments of around ₹70 crore in advanced EV manufacturing infrastructure. These investments include robotics-led production lines, expanded battery assembly operations, and modernisation of chassis and sub-assembly lines—all aimed at scaling production capacity and improving quality control.
Ajinkya Firodia, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of Kinetic Watts & Volts Ltd., described the incentive approval as a positive step in building a strong domestic EV ecosystem. He added that the support would enable KWV to accelerate localisation, broaden production capacity, and deliver affordable, safe electric mobility solutions to Indian consumers.
KWV has already started sales and service operations for the Kinetic DX — including in Pune, Mumbai, Vadodara, and Surat — with plans for further national expansion as production grows. The company believes this policy support will help it compete more effectively in the growing Indian EV market and contribute to Maharashtra’s larger goals in sustainable transportation.
