Nissan has rolled out a major shake-up of its domestic product strategy, unveiling three flagship models in Japan: the all-new Elgrand premium MPV, the re-entry of the legendary Patrol SUV, and a refreshed version of the Ariya electric crossover. This move aligns with Nissan’s renewed “Re :Nissan” plan focused on revitalising its home market presence.

The fourth-generation Elgrand makes its world premiere, adopting Nissan’s “Timeless Japanese Futurism” design language. It features a bold pixel-pattern front fascia, a full-width LED light bar and illuminated Nissan emblem, reflecting a strong luxury-MPV stance. Colour options such as “Fuji Dawn” and “Shigoku” enhance its distinctiveness in the domestic segment. Inside, the Elgrand offers twin 14.3-inch screens for the driver and front passenger, zero-gravity captain’s chairs, TailorFit leather trimming, a 22-speaker Bose system and 64-colour ambient lighting—bringing premium comfort to Nissan’s MPV offering. Under the skin, Elgrand will be the first Nissan model to adopt the third-generation e-POWER hybrid system together with the e-4ORCE electric four-wheel-drive setup, promising improved ride comfort and stability during acceleration and braking. The MPV gets Nissan’s ProPILOT 2.0 suite for hands-free driving up to 50 km/h.

Turning to the Patrol, Nissan confirmed its return to the Japanese market in the first half of fiscal year 2027, ending a nearly two-decade absence. As Nissan’s new SUV flagship at home, the Patrol will reinforce the brand’s presence in the premium large-SUV segment—a strategic move given growing demand for heavyweight SUVs in Japan and globally. This revival underscores Nissan’s intent to leverage its global SUV strength and bring it back into its domestic product portfolio.

On the electrification front, the Ariya EV gets a refresh ahead of its domestic Japanese launch later this fiscal year. Among the key upgrades: a Google-powered infotainment system, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality and updated suspension tuning focused on ride comfort—elements that enhance Nissan’s “Intelligent Mobility” vision. The refreshed Ariya aligns with Nissan’s push toward a cleaner, smarter mobility future in Japan as part of its broader electrification roadmap.

These three models mark the tangible roll-out of Nissan’s Re :Nissan strategy for the Japanese home market. The plan emphasises bringing back desirable, emotionally resonant vehicles built on advanced technology, while reinforcing Nissan’s heritage and innovation simultaneously. “A strong, vibrant Japan market is vital to Nissan’s global success. We’re reigniting that spirit by honouring our heritage, advancing technology, and offering vehicles that inspire pride and emotion,” said Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa.

For the Indian-EV landscape, this development is particularly noteworthy. Nissan’s reinforcement of domestic electrification with the Ariya refresh shows heightened internal focus on EV capability and global relevance. Indian-market players and stakeholders should monitor how the updated Ariya’s features—especially V2L and new infotainment—could ripple into right-hand-drive and India-specific launches. With India’s EV push accelerating, Nissan’s Japan revival may hint at evolved technology and model strategies that could shape its Indian presence down the line.
