India-based Offgrid Energy Labs has marked a significant milestone in advanced energy storage by launching the United Kingdom’s first dedicated ZincGel battery manufacturing facility in Hook, Hampshire. The new plant features a 10 MWh pilot production line and represents the company’s first international manufacturing base, taking its India-developed battery technology from laboratory research to commercial-scale production.

The facility has been established to accelerate the commercialization of Offgrid Energy Labs’ proprietary ZincGel battery technology, which is designed for long-duration energy storage applications. The company said the pilot manufacturing line will help validate production processes while supporting future expansion into larger manufacturing capacities for global energy storage markets.

Unlike conventional lithium-ion batteries, ZincGel technology is based on zinc-bromine chemistry and is engineered to deliver enhanced safety, longer operational life, and reliable long-duration energy storage. The battery system is non-flammable due to its water-based electrolyte and is intended for renewable energy projects, industrial facilities, utilities, and data centres seeking dependable energy storage solutions.

The launch comes as global demand for battery energy storage continues to grow alongside the rapid deployment of renewable energy. India is also expanding its clean energy infrastructure and is expected to require substantial battery storage capacity over the coming years to support its renewable energy targets. Offgrid believes its ZincGel platform can play a key role in meeting these long-duration storage requirements with a safer and scalable alternative.

According to the company, establishing its first overseas manufacturing facility also strengthens collaboration between India and the United Kingdom in clean technology and advanced battery innovation. The UK pilot plant will serve as a demonstration facility for customers and partners while laying the groundwork for future large-scale manufacturing and international deployment of ZincGel battery systems.

With the commissioning of the new facility, Offgrid Energy Labs has taken a major step toward expanding the global presence of Indian battery technology. The company aims to support the worldwide transition to low-carbon energy systems by providing cost-effective, long-duration, and safer battery storage solutions that can enhance renewable energy integration and improve grid reliability.
