Ola Electric has taken a major step beyond electric vehicles with the launch of its first residential battery energy storage system (BESS), named Ola Shakti. The rollout from the company’s gigafactory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, marks Ola Electric’s entry into India’s home energy storage segment as it aims to diversify its business beyond EVs.

Powered by the firm’s indigenously developed 4680 Bharat Cells, Ola Shakti is billed as India’s first fully designed, engineered and manufactured residential BESS. The product reflects Ola’s strategy to leverage its advanced battery technology originally developed for EVs into broader clean energy solutions.

The company positions Shakti as a portable, on demand energy solution for households, farms and small businesses, capable of providing reliable backup power and supporting critical appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, induction cooktops and farm pumps.

To suit varied energy needs, the system is available in four configurations from 1.5 kWh to 9.1 kWh and features rapid charging, instantaneous power changeover during outages and protection against voltage fluctuations. The product’s IP67-rated batteries are built to withstand dust, water and monsoon conditions, with zero running or maintenance costs.

Ola Electric has also integrated smart digital features, allowing users to monitor battery status and energy flow in real time via a dedicated mobile app. This helps households analyse usage patterns and optimise energy consumption efficiently.

The Ola Shakti launch underscores the company’s broader energy vision, extending from electric mobility into residential and decentralised energy storage solutions, and positions Ola Electric as a growing player in India’s evolving clean energy landscape.
