Ola Electric today announced that its indigenously developed 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack in a 5.2 kWh configuration has received certification from Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) under the latest AIS‑156 Amendment 4 standards issued by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.
This milestone makes Ola Electric the first domestic EV manufacturer in India to secure approval for a battery pack built entirely with its own cell-technology a significant shift from its previous reliance on third-party cells.
The certified battery pack is scheduled to debut in its forthcoming vehicle model, the S1 Pro+ electric scooter. With this rollout, Ola aims to bring to market a scooter powered by its homegrown cell technology.
According to the company, the 4680 Bharat Cell programme is designed to enhance energy density, improve range and boost unit-economics while reducing dependence on global supply chains for core EV battery technology.
The certification process reportedly involved rigorous tests covering water immersion, vibration endurance and thermal-shock resistance, reflecting Ola’s focus on safety, durability and performance.
With this approval in hand, Ola Electric is poised to begin the commercialisation of its internally-developed cell technology a step that could deepen its manufacturing integration and strengthen India’s EV-technology ecosystem.
