Ola Electric has categorically denied recent media reports alleging its involvement in a technology leak related to pouch-type battery cell designs, calling the claims “completely baseless and misleading”.

According to Ola Electric, the contested reports claimed that a former executive of LG Energy Solution attempted to transfer proprietary pouch-cell technology to the startup. Ola clarified that its in-house developed 4680 Bharat Cell uses advanced dry electrode cylindrical architecture distinctly different from the alleged pouch format.

The company emphasised that its 4680 Bharat Cell is India’s first large-format cylindrical battery designed and manufactured domestically to compete on a global scale in energy density, durability, and scalability.

Ola further pointed out that the timing of the reports was “strategically suspicious”, surfacing precisely as its cell technology entered commercial production. The firm suggested that foreign competitors, threatened by India’s rising self-reliance in advanced battery manufacturing, may be attempting to undermine the initiative.

Highlighting the home-grown nature of its battery innovation, Ola noted that it has filed 720 patents (with 124 already granted) and its Battery Innovation Centre in Bengaluru employs over 250 global experts in cell-design and manufacturing.

The robust response from Ola Electric underscores the broader push in India’s clean-energy ecosystem towards indigenous innovation and manufacturing under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” vision. The company reaffirmed its commitment to ethical innovation, protection of intellectual property, and sustainable domestic manufacturing at scale.
