PowerX has announced plans to open a new manufacturing facility in Hokkaido, Japan, to increase its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) production. The new plant, named “Power Base Hokkaido,” will be located in Tomakomai City and is expected to start operations in June 2027. This step is part of the company’s strategy to meet the growing demand for large-scale energy storage solutions.

The company plans to invest around 3 billion yen in the project. The factory will focus on producing its Mega Power 2500 container-type battery systems, which are mainly used for grid-scale energy storage and renewable energy integration. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to produce about 800 units annually, equivalent to nearly 2 GWh of storage capacity.

PowerX said the new facility will help increase its manufacturing capacity and ensure a stable supply of battery storage systems. The company also wants to reduce risks by expanding production across multiple locations instead of relying on a single factory. This strategy is especially important in Japan, where natural disasters can sometimes disrupt industrial operations.

Another reason for choosing Hokkaido is its strong renewable energy potential. The region is considered suitable for solar and wind power development, which increases the need for advanced battery storage systems. The company believes the new plant will support renewable energy expansion and help strengthen local energy infrastructure.

The location of the factory also offers strong logistics advantages. It is close to the Port of Tomakomai and New Chitose Airport, making transportation of equipment and finished products easier. Initially, the plant will operate with one production line, but the design allows future expansion with additional lines.

With this expansion, PowerX aims to play an important role in Japan’s clean energy transition and carbon neutrality goals. The company also plans to work with local partners and businesses to further strengthen the renewable energy ecosystem in the region.
