Schneider Electric India Foundation (SEIF), the social impact arm of Schneider Electric in India, has partnered with the Government of Tamil Nadu to establish 70 advanced skill training centres across government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). The initiative aims to strengthen vocational training and equip students with industry-relevant technical skills to improve their employment prospects.
On October 28, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay inaugurated the first 30 skill training centres at the Government ITI in Guindy, Chennai. The inauguration marks an important step in the partnership between Schneider Electric India Foundation and the state government to expand access to advanced technical training facilities across Tamil Nadu.
The initiative is expected to create skilling opportunities for approximately 25,000 young people across the state in electrical technologies and industrial automation. During the inauguration ceremony, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also exchanged between Schneider Electric India Foundation and the Tamil Nadu government for establishing the additional 40 skill centres.
The skill centres will focus on energy technology and industrial automation, providing advanced training infrastructure aligned with evolving industry requirements. The initiative is designed to strengthen vocational education and help students gain technical skills relevant to the changing needs of the industry.
Schneider Electric India Foundation will also train instructors across all 70 ITIs to help them effectively use the facilities and deliver high-quality, industry-relevant training. Deepak Sharma, Zone President, Greater India, Managing Director and CEO of Schneider Electric India, said the partnership aims to strengthen vocational training infrastructure, develop trainer capabilities and equip young people with relevant energy technology skills. He also highlighted the importance of collaboration between industry and government in building a future-ready workforce.
Through this partnership, Schneider Electric India Foundation and the Government of Tamil Nadu aim to strengthen the state’s vocational education ecosystem and improve access to industry-relevant technical skills. By combining advanced training infrastructure with instructor development, the initiative seeks to prepare young people for emerging opportunities in the energy technology and industrial automation sectors.
