Suzuki Motor Corporation has confirmed that its first global battery electric vehicle, the e-Vitara, will go on sale in Japan on January 16, 2026. The SUV, first unveiled in Milan in 2024 and later showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in 2025, represents Suzuki’s entry into the global EV market.
Built on the new 40PL skateboard platform co-developed with Toyota, the e-Vitara features a bold boxy silhouette, 18-inch wheels, tri-slash LED lighting, and a front-fender charging port. The SUV measures 4,275 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,640 mm in height, with 10 exterior color options, including four dual-tone choices.
The model will be available with two battery packs—49 kWh and 61 kWh—and three power outputs: 144 bhp, 171 bhp, and 181 bhp. While the lower trims come with 2WD, the top variant includes Suzuki’s ALLGRIP-e 4WD system with an additional rear motor. A 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and Level 2 ADAS safety features are part of the package.
Production of the e-Vitara has already begun in India, with the first batch of 2,900 units exported in August 2025 to 12 European countries, including the UK, Germany, France, Sweden, and Norway. Suzuki plans to expand exports to more than 100 global markets.
The SUV is expected to hit the Indian market by late 2025 or early 2026, positioning it as one of the first made-in-India electric SUVs for international sales. With its design, drivetrain technology, and global rollout, Suzuki aims to strengthen its competitiveness in the rapidly growing electric SUV segment.
The Japan launch marks a key milestone in Suzuki’s electrification roadmap, underscoring its strategy to deliver sustainable mobility solutions while leveraging India as a global EV manufacturing hub.
