The Technology Development Board (TDB), operating under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), has signed a strategic agreement with Scharge to support innovation in electric vehicle charging technology. This collaboration is part of the India–UK joint research and development programme focused on industrial sustainability and clean mobility solutions.

The project aims to develop next-generation EV charging infrastructure specially designed for commercial fleets and depot operations. Under this initiative, Scharge will work with UK-based Albright Product Design to combine advanced charging controllers with automated cable management technology to improve charging efficiency and safety.

One of the key highlights of the project is a motorised overhead cable management system that helps reduce manual effort and protects charging cables from damage. The system is expected to make EV charging operations smoother, faster, and more organised, especially in high-usage fleet environments.

The new technology is also designed to be compatible with existing AC Type-2 EV chargers, making it easier for operators to upgrade their infrastructure without major changes. The innovation is expected to improve turnaround time, enhance safety standards, and reduce operational risks at EV charging depots.

Scharge Pvt Ltd, an emerging Indian EV technology company, is focusing on developing smart charging systems and advanced power electronics through this initiative. The company aims to strengthen India’s domestic EV technology capabilities while supporting the country’s growing electric mobility ecosystem.

Officials from TDB highlighted that international R&D collaborations like this play an important role in accelerating technology development and supporting EV adoption. The partnership is expected to contribute to building a strong and future-ready EV charging ecosystem in India.
