Toyota has officially unveiled the all-new Land Cruiser FJ in Japan, expanding its iconic off-roader portfolio with a compact and rugged SUV aimed at adventure enthusiasts and urban buyers alike. The new model joins the legendary Land Cruiser family as a smaller yet capable offering designed to deliver strong off-road performance while maintaining everyday practicality.

The newly introduced Land Cruiser FJ carries forward Toyota’s traditional boxy SUV styling with modern updates inspired by the classic FJ models. The SUV features a bold upright stance, muscular wheel arches, chunky bumpers, and rugged body cladding that reinforce its off-road character. Toyota has positioned the FJ below the Land Cruiser 250 and 300 Series models to attract a younger generation of buyers seeking compact adventure vehicles.

According to Toyota, the “FJ” name represents “Freedom & Joy,” highlighting the company’s focus on lifestyle mobility and outdoor exploration. The SUV has been developed on Toyota’s durable IMV platform and retains the brand’s core Land Cruiser DNA of reliability, durability, and all-terrain capability. The automaker says the vehicle is engineered to handle difficult terrains while offering improved maneuverability in urban environments.

Inside the cabin, the Land Cruiser FJ gets a practical and modern layout featuring a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, multifunction steering wheel, and multiple storage spaces for adventure gear. Toyota has also equipped the SUV with several off-road-focused technologies including drive modes, 4WD controls, and advanced safety systems to enhance driving confidence across varying terrains.

Powering the compact SUV is expected to be a 2.7-litre petrol engine paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox and a full-time four-wheel-drive system. Reports suggest the SUV has been extensively tested under harsh conditions to ensure durability and dependable off-road capability, continuing the legacy associated with the Land Cruiser brand globally.

Toyota has commenced sales of the Land Cruiser FJ in Japan from May 14, while global expansion plans are expected to follow in selected international markets over the coming years. The company believes the compact SUV will strengthen the Land Cruiser lineup by offering a more accessible and lifestyle-focused off-road vehicle for customers seeking rugged performance in a smaller package.
