German luxury carmaker Audi has demonstrated the power of electrified performance with the latest RS 5 plug-in hybrid during its first real-world performance testing in Morocco. The test highlighted how the company is combining traditional high-performance engineering with modern hybrid technology as part of its electrification strategy.

The performance trials were conducted at the Circuit de Marrakech and on the challenging roads of the Atlas Mountains, where the vehicle was tested in extreme driving conditions. These tests showed the RS 5’s ability to deliver both racetrack performance and everyday usability, proving the flexibility of the new hybrid powertrain.

The new RS 5 features a plug-in hybrid system combining a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine with an electric motor, producing a combined output of about 639 PS and 825 Nm of torque. This setup enables strong acceleration, improved efficiency, and instant electric boost during demanding driving situations.

Audi also focused on handling improvements by introducing an advanced quattro drivetrain with dynamic torque control and electromechanical torque vectoring. These technologies help distribute power more effectively between the wheels, improving stability, cornering precision, and driving confidence across different terrains.

During the testing phase, the car also demonstrated its ability to operate in electric-only mode in low-speed environments, offering near-silent driving. When more power is required, the hybrid system seamlessly combines the combustion engine and electric motor to maintain high performance.

With this successful test, Audi aims to position the RS 5 as a benchmark in the electrified performance segment, showing that sustainability and high performance can coexist. The model reflects the company’s broader push toward electrification while maintaining its signature sporty driving experience.
