The Delhi government is planning to seek support from the central government to strengthen electric vehicle charging and battery-swapping infrastructure. This initiative is part of the city’s broader plan to support the growing adoption of electric vehicles and ensure sufficient charging facilities for future demand.
The proposal is expected to be submitted under the PM E‑DRIVE Scheme, which aims to support EV ecosystem development across India. Under the new EV policy plans, Delhi intends to significantly increase the number of public charging and battery-swapping points to support its electrification goals.
Delhi Transco Limited (DTL) is likely to be appointed as the nodal agency responsible for planning, coordination, and implementation of the EV charging and battery-swapping infrastructure. The agency will also help identify suitable locations and manage electricity load requirements for the planned expansion.
Officials also plan to introduce standard operating procedures (SoPs) covering technical standards, approval timelines, and monitoring systems for EV infrastructure deployment. Additionally, a dedicated digital portal may be developed to manage approvals, site onboarding, monitoring, and reporting related to EV charging projects.
To make installation easier for companies, the government is also planning a single-window clearance system. This system is expected to help EV charging and battery-swapping operators get faster approvals and electricity connections, which could accelerate infrastructure deployment across the city.
Overall, this step reflects Delhi’s continued focus on clean mobility and pollution reduction. By expanding EV charging and battery-swapping infrastructure with central support, the government aims to make electric vehicles more practical and accessible for daily use in the coming years.
