Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has unveiled its new ultra-fast 1,000 kW Flash Charging system, aiming to revolutionize Europe’s EV charging network. The launch took place at the IAA Mobility 2025 event, showcasing BYD’s push toward next-generation charging technologies that can dramatically cut down wait times for EV owners.

The Flash Charging system is designed to deliver up to 1,000 kW of power through a single CCS2 connector. With this capability, EVs can recharge enough to drive around 400 kilometres (250 miles) in just five minutes, bringing charging convenience closer to the speed of traditional fuel refilling.

At the core of this technology is BYD’s advanced Super e-Platform, which features high-performance components including a 1,500V silicon carbide power module and a high-speed electric motor reaching up to 30,511 rpm. These innovations are aimed at improving energy transfer efficiency and ensuring reliable, ultra-fast charging for a wide range of electric vehicles.

BYD is set to deploy between 200 and 300 Flash Charging stations across Europe by the second quarter of 2026. The initial rollout will focus on supporting its premium Denza lineup, including the Z9 GT and D9 MPV. At the IAA Mobility event, the company gave live demonstrations of the technology, allowing visitors to experience its ultra-fast charging performance firsthand.

According to industry analysts, the arrival of these high-capacity chargers has the potential to significantly boost EV adoption by reducing charging times to a level comparable with conventional fuel stops. This move highlights BYD’s commitment to driving innovation in sustainable mobility and its ambition to play a leading role in shaping Europe’s electric vehicle landscape.
