The Delhi government is set to introduce its second Electric Vehicle (EV) policy in early 2026, aiming to accelerate the adoption of electric two-wheelers, especially among gig workers, delivery personnel, and small business owners. The upcoming policy is expected to offer increased subsidies, tax concessions, low-interest financing, and scrappage-linked incentives, making EVs more affordable and accessible across the National Capital Region (NCR).
Increased Subsidies and Tax Concessions
The revised policy will enhance financial incentives for purchasing electric two-wheelers. Reports indicate that subsidies could double per kWh, with a higher overall cap to reduce the upfront cost of EVs, encouraging more widespread adoption. Additionally, the policy will offer additional tax benefits, particularly for those scrapping older petrol two-wheelers and switching to electric alternatives.
Low-Interest Financing Options
Recognizing financial constraints faced by gig and delivery workers, the policy proposes affordable loan schemes to make EVs accessible to this critical workforce. These financing options aim to ease the transition to electric mobility by providing manageable repayment plans and competitive interest rates.
Enhanced Charging Infrastructure
To address one of the major concerns for EV users, the policy plans to install more charging stations near marketplaces and high-delivery zones. This initiative aims to ease one of the biggest pain points for commercial users—the lack of charging options—by ensuring convenient access to charging facilities across the city.
Extension of Current EV Policy
The existing EV policy has been extended until March 2026 or until the new policy is implemented. This extension ensures the continuity of support for electric vehicle adoption and provides time for the government to finalize and roll out the enhanced incentives under the upcoming policy.
Commitment to Sustainable Mobility
Delhi’s push to enhance EV incentives aligns with the city’s broader strategy to promote green mobility, reduce vehicular pollution, and make electric transportation more affordable and accessible for residents. The government is committed to creating a sustainable and self-reliant mobility ecosystem, contributing to the nation’s clean energy transition goals.
