The Uttarakhand ministry of transport has created a strategy to set up electric vehicle (EV) charging stations every 26 km on the Char Dham Yatra routes in an effort to ensure emission-free journeys and safeguard the environment.
The government will build 154 EV charging stations, the network of which will span about 4,500 km of roads in the hill state, according to the transport department.
According to a source, in the first stage of construction, 12 stations will be built in the Garhwal division and 9 stations in the Kumaon area will be connected by an EV charging network. The government will invest around 40 crores in this EV networking. Points have been earmarked at 33 locations on the Char Dhaam Route to erect the EV charging station.
Similar to this, the Kumaon region has designated areas that are on the route to important pilgrimage and tourist sites. According to a source from the transport department, a thorough project report has been sent to the government in this regard.
