iGo, an emerging innovator in the EV mobility space, has announced a strategic partnership with Pune-based manufacturing veteran Sun Electro Devices to accelerate the production of its cutting-edge 2.5-wheeler smart EVs. This collaboration marks a decisive shift from the legacy playbook of giga-factory vertical integration to a more agile, ecosystem-driven approach.
In the previous wave of EV development, the industry was largely focused on reducing costs by building everything in-house, often driven by government incentives like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. However, iGo is taking a different route leveraging India’s strong, existing manufacturing ecosystem to deliver innovation at scale without compromising on quality or time-to-market.
“Why reinvent the wheel,” said Sravan Kumar Appana, “when we’ve already invented the twin-wheel? Our focus is to build a product that customers love, and that’s only possible by combining deep tech innovation with decades of manufacturing excellence.”
Sun Electro Devices, with a large manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune, brings decades of experience in automotive production, a seasoned team, and a robust supplier network. Their proven expertise in delivering high-volume, high-precision components aligns seamlessly with iGo’s bold vision of disrupting urban mobility with smart, connected 2.5-wheelers.
Sravan Appana, CEO at iGo, added: “In hardware, building new technology is super hard. Making a lovable product is not easy. Getting it certified is a mammoth task. And finally, bringing it to manufacturing is an altogether different challenge. Many startups, even with a great product, struggle at this last mile. This partnership solves that problem for us.”
With this partnership, iGo aims to scale up production to 1000 vehicles a month in the next 7 months, targeting launch in Pune, Panjim and Mumbai . The twin-wheel EV platform is designed for unique safety features like anti-topple stabilization technology, on-demand self-balancing, best-in-any-class triple-disc CBS system , offering an entirely new category between traditional scooters and eRikshaw carts.
This step represents more than a manufacturing alliance; it’s a shift in EV manufacturing philosophy. iGo is building a new category for the Indian and global market by collaborating rather than competing with India’s legacy manufacturing ecosystem.
