Madhya Pradesh has taken another major step towards strengthening its renewable energy capacity by inaugurating two large-scale solar parks with a combined generation capacity of 950 MW. Alongside the launch, the state also signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the 440 MW Morena Solar Plus Storage Project, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of clean energy infrastructure. The initiatives are aimed at increasing green power generation, improving energy security, and supporting India’s long-term renewable energy goals.
The newly inaugurated projects include the 500 MW Neemuch Solar Park and the 450 MW Shajapur Solar Park. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi, and senior state government officials. During the event, the government also announced development works worth ₹1,593.98 crore, highlighting its commitment to sustainable industrial and infrastructure growth. These projects are expected to significantly boost the state’s renewable energy capacity while supplying affordable clean electricity.
Another key highlight of the event was the signing of the PPA for the 440 MW Morena Solar Plus Storage Project, which will become Madhya Pradesh’s first utility-scale solar project integrated with battery energy storage. The project secured a highly competitive tariff of ₹2.70 per unit through the bidding process, making it one of the country’s lowest tariffs for firm and dispatchable renewable energy. The storage system will enable reliable power supply during peak demand periods while improving overall grid stability.
Officials stated that the Neemuch Solar Park achieved competitive tariffs as low as ₹2.14 per unit, while the Shajapur Solar Park recorded tariffs beginning at ₹2.33 per unit. These competitive rates reinforce Madhya Pradesh’s position as one of India’s leading destinations for low-cost solar power generation. The projects are expected to help reduce dependence on conventional power sources while lowering electricity procurement costs over the long term.
The state government also highlighted ongoing progress on the 550 MW Agar Solar Park, which is currently under construction. Together with the newly inaugurated facilities and the Morena solar-plus-storage project, these developments form part of Madhya Pradesh’s broader strategy to expand renewable energy capacity, attract private investment, and accelerate the transition towards a cleaner and more resilient power sector.
With the commissioning of these major solar parks and the advancement of battery-backed renewable energy projects, Madhya Pradesh continues to strengthen its leadership in India’s clean energy transition. The combination of large-scale solar generation and energy storage is expected to improve round-the-clock power availability, enhance grid reliability, and contribute significantly to the country’s renewable energy and carbon reduction targets.
