Maruti Suzuki has initiated the dispatch of its much-awaited e-Vitara electric SUV to dealerships across India, signalling that the launch is drawing near. The move comes even as the company gears up for the car’s formal unveiling, suggesting that customer deliveries may not be far off.
The first set of vehicles is rolling out from Maruti’s Gujarat manufacturing facility. This plant is not only critical for domestic distribution but is also expected to serve as an export hub, with the company targeting markets in Europe and Japan.
Under the hood, the e-Vitara comes with two lithium-iron-phosphate battery options — a 49 kWh pack that claims a WLTP range of around 346 km, and a 61 kWh variant promising up to 428 km. These powertrains are built to strike a balance between efficiency and performance, suitable for both city driving and longer journeys.
In terms of design and in-cabin feel, Maruti has equipped the e-Vitara with premium touches: 18-inch alloy wheels, ventilated front seats, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel. The SUV also features dual driving modes (Eco and Sport) and a one-pedal mode, enhancing its usability for diverse driving conditions.
Safety has not been compromised either. The e-Vitara comes loaded with Level-2 ADAS, seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, traction control, and regenerative braking. These features are part of Maruti’s push to ensure that its first EV is not just green, but also safe and modern.
Despite the dispatch beginning, Maruti has faced delays with the launch. The company’s chairman, R. C. Bhargava, had earlier stated that deliveries will only start by the end of September 2025 — a shift from earlier timelines. Still, with units now moving to dealerships, the countdown to launch seems to be entering its final leg.
