NHOA Energy Secures Neoen Culcairn Battery Storage Project in Australia

NHOA Energy has been awarded the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for Neoen’s Culcairn Battery project in New South Wales, Australia. The utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) will deliver 215 MW / 963 MWh of storage capacity, supporting greater grid stability and the integration of renewable energy into Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM).

The Culcairn Battery will be co-located with Neoen’s Culcairn Solar Farm, allowing the project to efficiently store excess solar power and supply electricity during periods of higher demand. NHOA Energy will deliver the project in partnership with a joint venture comprising Equans Solar & Storage and Bouygues Construction Australia, combining expertise in battery storage and large-scale infrastructure development.

The battery energy storage system is designed to enhance the reliability and flexibility of the electricity grid by storing renewable energy and dispatching it when required. The project will help improve the use of clean energy, reduce grid congestion, and support Australia’s transition toward a more sustainable and resilient power system.

Construction of the Culcairn Battery has commenced, with commercial operations expected to begin in 2028. Once completed, the project will become one of Australia’s significant utility-scale battery storage installations, contributing to the country’s growing renewable energy and energy storage capacity.

The latest contract further strengthens the collaboration between NHOA Energy and Neoen in delivering advanced battery energy storage projects. It also expands NHOA Energy’s presence in the Asia-Pacific market while reinforcing its expertise in executing large-scale BESS projects that support renewable energy integration and grid reliability.

As Australia continues to accelerate renewable energy deployment, large-scale battery storage projects such as the Culcairn Battery will play an increasingly important role in balancing electricity supply and demand. The project reflects the growing investment in energy storage infrastructure needed to improve energy security, support decarbonization goals, and ensure a more flexible and reliable electricity network.
