N.A.N. GreenMet and Silox Launch Advanced Battery Recycling Joint Venture India

N.A.N. GreenMet has partnered with Belgium-based Silox Group to form a 50:50 joint venture, N.A.N. Silox GreenMet, to develop an advanced lithium-ion battery recycling and critical minerals recovery platform in India. The collaboration aims to strengthen the country’s battery recycling ecosystem while supporting the growing demand for sustainable raw materials across the electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage sectors.

The joint venture will establish a state-of-the-art recycling facility in Andhra Pradesh to process end-of-life lithium-ion batteries from electric vehicles, consumer electronics, and stationary energy storage systems. The plant will utilize advanced shredding, beneficiation, and hydrometallurgical refining technologies to recover valuable battery materials, including lithium, cobalt, nickel, and manganese.

The project will be implemented in two phases with a planned battery shredding capacity of up to 40,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) and hydrometallurgical processing capacity of 20,000 TPA. The recovered critical minerals are expected to be refined into battery-grade metal salts, supporting domestic battery manufacturing and helping reduce India’s reliance on imported raw materials.

Beyond battery recycling, the joint venture also plans to explore downstream opportunities such as precursor cathode active materials (pCAM), cathode active materials (CAM), and second-life battery solutions for stationary energy storage applications. These initiatives are intended to strengthen India’s battery value chain and promote a circular economy for critical battery materials.

Silox Group brings more than four decades of expertise in hydrometallurgical processing and battery materials recovery, while N.A.N. GreenMet contributes its industrial capabilities and local market experience. Together, the companies aim to accelerate the commercialization of advanced battery recycling technologies and improve the availability of critical minerals for India’s rapidly expanding EV industry.

The partnership aligns with India’s broader clean energy and electric mobility ambitions by promoting responsible battery recycling and resource recovery. As demand for lithium-ion batteries continues to rise, the joint venture is expected to support a more sustainable supply chain, reduce battery waste, and contribute to the long-term growth of the country’s EV and energy storage ecosystem.
