YESS Power has announced that the battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Novaci hybrid power plant in North Macedonia is expected to begin commercial operations in the third quarter of 2026. The project is being developed at Mey Energy’s 55 MW Novaci solar power plant and is positioned as one of the most significant hybrid renewable energy developments in the Western Balkans region.

The BESS installation will feature a total operating capacity of 30 MW and storage capacity of 60 MWh. According to YESS Power, the system has been designed to improve renewable energy utilization, support grid stability, and enable efficient energy management during peak demand periods. The project also marks North Macedonia’s first large-scale battery storage system integrated with a solar power plant.

YESS Power, the energy storage division of Turkish company Topkapı Endüstri, handled the engineering, procurement, installation, commissioning, and technical integration of the battery system. The company collaborated with Chinese battery technology partner Cubenergy for the deployment of the storage infrastructure at the Novaci site.

The Novaci solar power plant has been operational since 2023 and currently generates around 85 GWh of electricity annually, enough to supply nearly 30,000 households. Spread across approximately 57 hectares, the facility was recognized as one of the largest private solar power plants in the Western Balkans when it was commissioned.

YESS Power stated that the battery system uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology combined with liquid cooling for enhanced operational safety and efficiency. The company added that the project’s all-in-one battery design allows faster installation, optimized land usage, and improved communication between system components. The storage facility is also expected to support both energy arbitrage and frequency regulation services for the regional grid.

The company believes that hybrid renewable projects integrating solar generation with battery storage will play a crucial role in Southeast Europe’s energy transition. YESS Power has also indicated plans to expand its battery storage operations into additional regional markets, including Romania, as demand for grid flexibility and renewable integration continues to grow across Eastern Europe.
