Toyota Motor Corporation has officially unveiled the latest RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) in Japan, with the model set to go on sale from March 9, 2026. The Japanese automaker says the new plug-in hybrid SUV builds on the RAV4’s rugged design and versatile performance, continuing its “Life is an Adventure” philosophy for modern SUV buyers.
The new RAV4 PHEV is offered in two distinct grades — the premium Z (PHEV) and the sport-oriented GR SPORT (PHEV). Toyota says both variants blend high on-road and off-road capability with refined styling and functionality tailored to diverse customer preferences.
Under the hood, the RAV4 PHEV uses a next-generation plug-in hybrid system built on an energy-efficient hybrid platform. With a newly developed large-capacity drive battery and enhanced power electronics, the system delivers a maximum output of 242 kW (329 PS), giving the SUV strong, responsive performance.
One of the headline improvements in this model is its BEV-mode all-electric driving range, which Toyota says has increased to about 150 km on a full charge thanks to the larger battery and the use of silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors in the power control unit — up significantly from previous generations.
Toyota has also equipped the RAV4 PHEV with a power supply system that can serve as an external energy source. Through dedicated outlets and connectors, the vehicle can supply up to 1,500 W of electricity for outdoor equipment or household appliances, and in emergency scenarios can provide power for about six-to-seven days on a fully charged battery and full fuel tank.
In Japan, the suggested retail price is set at ¥6,000,000 for the Z (PHEV) and ¥6,300,000 for the GR SPORT (PHEV), including consumption tax. Toyota plans to aim for a monthly sales volume of about 700 units domestically, underscoring its strategy to strengthen electrified vehicle offerings and advance toward carbon neutrality.
