Toyota Kirloskar Motor has officially opened bookings for its upcoming Urban Cruiser Electric SUV in India, marking the brand’s next step in expanding its electric vehicle portfolio. Interested customers can reserve the electric SUV at authorised Toyota dealerships by paying a refundable booking amount of ₹25,000, while prices are expected to be announced closer to the launch.
The Urban Cruiser Electric is based on Toyota’s global EV platform and shares its foundations with Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming electric SUV. However, Toyota has given the model its own identity through brand-specific styling elements, including a redesigned front fascia, distinctive LED lighting signatures, updated bumpers and new alloy wheel designs aimed at urban buyers.
Powering the SUV will be two battery pack options, a smaller 49 kWh unit and a larger 61 kWh lithium-ion battery. Toyota claims the larger battery variant can deliver a driving range of up to 543 km on a single charge under test conditions, positioning the model competitively within India’s growing electric SUV segment.
Inside, the Urban Cruiser Electric is expected to offer a modern and tech-focused cabin. Key highlights include a large touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital driver display, connected car technology, wireless smartphone integration and premium interior finishes designed to enhance comfort and convenience for daily use.
Safety will be a major focus for the new electric SUV, with Toyota expected to equip it with multiple airbags, electronic stability control, parking assistance features and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems on higher variants. These features aim to meet evolving safety expectations among Indian EV buyers.
With bookings now underway, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Electric is set to take on established and upcoming rivals in India’s midsize electric SUV space. By combining long driving range, practical features and Toyota’s reliability-driven brand image, the company aims to strengthen its presence in India’s rapidly expanding electric mobility market.
