Volvo Cars has announced plans to increase production of its upcoming EX60 electric SUV after witnessing stronger-than-expected early demand in several European markets. The Swedish automaker said customer orders have surpassed initial projections just weeks after the vehicle’s reveal, prompting the company to review and expand its manufacturing plans for 2026.

According to the company, interest in the new electric SUV has been particularly strong in Sweden and Germany, two of Volvo’s key markets. In Sweden alone, more than 3,000 orders were placed within the first month after the model was unveiled, highlighting the growing demand for premium electric SUVs across Europe.

To meet this increasing demand, Volvo is planning to boost production of the EX60 at its Torslanda manufacturing plant in Sweden. The company is also discussing the possibility of keeping the factory operational for an additional week during the summer shutdown period, which would be a first in Volvo’s history.

The EX60 is positioned as a key model in Volvo’s electrification strategy and is expected to play a major role in the company’s transition toward fully electric vehicles. Built on Volvo’s new SPA3 platform, the SUV represents the next generation of the brand’s EV technology and design approach.

Despite being available for order only in European markets so far, the response from customers has been extremely positive. Volvo expects demand to rise further once order books open in the United States and other global markets later this year.

Customer vehicle production is expected to begin soon, with deliveries planned later in 2026. Volvo said it will focus on gradually ramping up production while maintaining high manufacturing quality as it prepares to meet growing global demand for the EX60 electric SUV.
